Provably fair games, explained simply
How server seeds, client seeds and nonces let you check that a crypto casino didn't rig your bet.
The short version
Before you bet, the casino shows you a hash of its secret server seed. After the round, it reveals the seed. You combine it with your own client seed and a nonce (the bet number) to recalculate the result. If the hash matches and the result matches, the casino couldn’t have changed it.
What it does not prove
- That the house edge is fair or low
- That the casino will pay out
- That slots from third-party providers are fair — those use certified RNGs instead
Questions people ask
Does provably fair mean I'll win?
No. Provably fair proves the result wasn't changed after you bet. The game still has a house edge, so over time you are still expected to lose money.
